I grew up just outside Jackson Mississippi. Living out in the country boredom helped cultivate my creativity. Art found me in college while I was major surfing and testing the waters as an Interior Design major. Having to take several basic art classes - Photography finally lit a fire under me. I graduated from Mississippi State University in 1995 with a Bachelors of Fine Art.
Getting married after college to my sweetheart Chris; I told him I would move anywhere but Texas. Well here I am in Kingwood, TX just outside of Houston (where we've been since college). I was lucky to find a fantastic job with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (after several years of paying my dues in odd jobs). I spent a little over three years as the assistant to the Photographer, Tom Dubrock. He taught me so much and the atmosphere was an artist dream. Being surrounded by paintings, photography, sculpture - everything imaginable in a top museum was Heaven - with stress. I felt like I wasn't creating but "producing" for others.
Deciding to stay at home with my two little girls was such an easy decision. I spent four years not thinking about art at all. In January of '07 my mom sent me to a painting class for my birthday. I hadn't been interested in painting since college but I was ready for a little break from the girls and a week in New Orleans sounded great. I fell in love with oil the first day! Fredrick Guess, the artist giving the class, is a phenomenal teacher. A classically trained impressionist, he has a talent for teaching as well as painting. Some how he managed what my painting professors in college could not - he got me to translate what I see on to canvas.
I've been painting ever since and loving every brush stroke.
